Volunteer Spotlight: Cindy Wilson

Learn more about Mentoring at The WellHouse through this volunteer spotlight.

It has been a noteworthy season of service at The WellHouse. Many volunteers, including the building ministry from Crosspoint Baptist church, were instrumental in constructing our new WellHouse Child Home and Chapel.

One wonderful member of Crosspoint is Cindy Wilson, a long-time difference-maker at The WellHouse. Cindy describes the beginning of her service to The WellHouse, “Back in 2016, someone came to our Bible study group and told us about the great things happening at The WellHouse. I felt a little intimidated at first. I knew very little about human trafficking. But I decided this was something I would like to try.”

Cindy began working with the transport team, helping drive ladies to various medical and dental appointments. She was surprised at how the conversation flowed. “We would chat all the way to and from the appointments,” said Cindy. “I didn’t ask questions about their trauma. It was more like a friendly, casual conversation. I was surprised by how quickly the girls made their way into my heart, though. Before long, I knew with certainty that The WellHouse was a place God wanted me to serve.”

One day, one of the residents asked Cindy if she would consider becoming her mentor. “I was so honored by this!” she said.

Cindy learned that her new role was all about spending time with her mentee. “I am not a teacher or a preacher, but I knew I could be a faithful friend, and I knew I could encourage her to seek God. Every time we were together, the trust deepened,” she said.

Cindy saw her mentee complete the WellHouse program, attain full-time employment, and purchase an automobile. Cindy was even there when her mentee and another WellHouse resident were finally ready to move to their own independent apartment. “My husband still helps them with their cars!” she exclaimed.

Over the years, Cindy has mentored two women from the program and has just begun working with a third. When asked what, if anything, about the experience surprised her, she said, “I was much more blessed than I expected! The amount of love that filled my heart for these ladies actually surprised me.” Cindy understands that stepping into the mentoring role can be intimidating. “It really is as simple as offering someone your friendship and your time. Being there is everything.”

When Cindy Wilson isn’t busy making a difference as a mentor, she can be found with her service group, Stitches of Grace. https://www.facebook.com/StitchesOfGraceCrosspoint

This wonderful group is currently creating cushions for the pews in the brand new WellHouse Chapel.

Thank you, Cindy, for your dedicated service to The WellHouse!
