Difference Makers: Fall 2024

I am continually blown away at the individuals, groups, churches, and organizations that come together to support The WellHouse in the form of volunteering! Our Volunteer Team has grown by 20 individuals over the past few months, and we are so excited that’s the case. No matter what area you serve in - directly with residents, administratively, through facilities projects, intercessory prayer, or ShopWell - you are making a difference!

We had an exciting, but big undertaking to tackle this summer - moving into the new barn on our campus. Thanks to many of you, we were able to build and move all of the furniture into the barn within our desired timeframe! We are well aware that we could not have done it as efficiently without all of our volunteers’ help. Our residents now get to enjoy the peaceful barn because of your hard work.

This summer, 6 churches hosted various service days at The WellHouse. They helped us accomplish projects like painting apartments, washing cars, moving furniture, assembling desks, weed eating, and sorting through clothing donations. We are honored that The WellHouse is thought of and prioritized when it comes to opportunities like local service days in our community.

I’m excited to announce that we have officially started a WellHouse Child mentorship program! We have learned through the WellHouse Woman program that mentors play a huge role in our residents’ healing journeys. The friendship and wisdom these relationships offer are very special and vital. Thank you to those of you who have stepped up to the plate in this precious way. We are thankful that our WellHouse Child residents will now get to experience mentorship, and we believe the Lord will use it mightily!

Feeding and nourishing 40 women and children is not an easy task. However, with the help of our life skills classes, individual volunteers, and groups, this has become much more manageable. For example, organizations like Les Dames d'Escoffier International Birmingham Chapter and Smiling Angels have helped us this summer by delivering casseroles and groceries to our campus. This is a great way to tangibly support the WellHouse’s operations, and we invite you to join this effort! Please reach out to me if you would like more information.

Thank you each for playing a part in helping our residents reach restoration! We are better because of you.
