Letter from the CEO: Summer 2020
The events of 2020 have been heavy. Trying. Shocking. Distressing.
However, I take great comfort in knowing that the God we serve knew exactly what this year would hold, so while it has certainly flung us into a very different pattern of living and thinking, it is still always safe to trust Him and His ways.
Like so many, my heart and mind have been filled with thoughts of how to respond, especially to the latest occurrences that have led to a broader discussion about racism. The WellHouse has long been a place of refuge for survivors of the most egregious of crimes without regard to color, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or any other category where one could be discriminatory.
After all, we exist because injustice exists! We have services to offer because of the grave injustices committed against our survivors, often beginning in their childhood.
Our answer to this outcry for justice is found in the faith that this ministry embraced at its inception and upon which it has continued to build. It is very simple in theory but demands the deepest of commitment–love God and love people! Love takes many forms, and to make sure that we continue to enhance and improve upon our current commitment, we must embrace the deeper forms of love. We will put aside old ways of thinking that have not worked or that need to be improved and determine that we will be better.
Again, success is found in loving God and loving people. At The WellHouse, we are determined to do this well, and as God’s word says in Ecclesiastes 9:10, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might!”
Thank you for being in this battle with us. We look forward to seeing what God is planning and desires to accomplish through these tough times, for we know from Psalm 31:15, that our times are in His hands! And what a safe place to be! God bless!
